Should gays be allowed to marry in California?

Proposition 8 was put on the November ballot by those who want to undue the California Supreme Court’s decision to allow gays to marry. If passed, marriage in California would be only allowed between a man and a woman. This point/counter- point will feature Assistant Pastor of Mercy Church Jason Weatherred in support of the initiative, and GALA board member Clayton Marsh in opposition. |
Carrizo Plain—Could it be a boom to SLO tourism?
For decades, most of the residents of SLO County gave very little attention to the Carrizo Plain, a vast largely unspoiled and unpopulated valley in the Eastern part of the county. Now, it’s taking on a new significance for both its solar generation potential and for its unique qualities as one of the few remaining grasslands in the state. Wilderness society resource economist Dr. Michelle Haefele will explain why the Carrizo Plain has potential economic benefits to SLO. |

To be successful in the Olympic Sport of Equestrian Individual Eventing, it isn’t enough for a person to be dedicated, talented, focused and incredibly hardworking—their horse has be all that, too! Local equestrian Gina Miles and her horse McKinlaigh earned the Silver Medal in the Beijing Olympics. She’ll tell us about this unique experience and what it took to get there.
