Building Bridges

It is one of the most vital issues of our time – bridging the gap between the Muslim world and the West. We’ll have a chance to hear an expert’s view when Dr. Fouad Bouguetta speaks at Good Morning, SLO. Bouguetta is a Fulbright Scholar and Algerian sociologist who is in San Luis Obispo as part of Cal Poly’s  Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program.

Imagine That

The question coming from children these days isn’t “Are we there yet?” It’s “Is it open yet?” The wait’s almost over. Excitement has been building as the completion of the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum approaches. Finishing touches are being completed and Roy Mueller, the museum’s executive director, will give us an up-to-the-minute status report.

Where’s the Rice?

A global shortage of rice made headlines recently, causing some Americans to start stockpiling the grain. How real is the worldwide food shortage and what are the potential long-range impacts? Dr. Wayne Howard, chair of Cal Poly’s Agribusiness Department, will share his opinion about the global food shortage and discuss the cause – and possible solutions.

Hook, Line and…Sinking

The Central Coast’s commercial fishing industry is struggling through some tough times. But a new “business plan” crafted with the help of the California Coastal Conservancy could help educate consumers about the importance of local fisheries. Henry Pontarelli, a consultant who worked with the conservancy, will discuss the plan and how it will help develop and preserve the local fishing industry.

I Think We’ve Got It

The SLO Little Theatre, that is, whose cast will perform an excerpt from its production of the classic, “My Fair Lady.” The beloved musical premiers at the Little Theatre on Friday and continues its run through June 22. Get your Thursday off to a humming start.

Pump it Up

Drive south, drive north, heck go to Hawaii. It seems no matter where you go, it’s cheaper to fill your gas tank than in San Luis Obispo. With gas prices topping $4 a gallon with summer right around the corner, everyone’s talking about the price at the pump. Joe Sparano, president of Western States Petroleum Association, will discuss the differences in regional gas prices and when, or if, prices will decrease.
