Joanne Smith, a SLO native and Cal Poly alum, is definitely a local girl done good. As senior vice president of in-flight service and global product development for Delta Air Lines, she is credited with helping pull the company out of bankruptcy by offering travelers a better experience. Smith, who began her career as a flight attendant, was also named one of “50 Women to Watch” last year by the Wall Street Journal. She’ll talk about her career and address local air service. Central Coast Seafood wants to be known for providing the freshest fish to its customers. But it also wants its products to be available down the road. So the family-owned company has made a commitment to sustainability, in part by partnering with the Nature Conservancy to develop a local model of fishery management, the first venture of its kind. Giovanni Comin, Central Coast Seafood's President/Owner, will discuss the company’s efforts and why they are important.
Is it right for a single mother of six children to get fertility treatments? How about when those treatments result in eight babies? Where is the line when dealing with medical advances in human reproduction? Dr. Alex Steinleitner, a SLO-based reproductive and infertility specialist, will explore answers to those questions and more in light of the Octo-Mom saga and other ethical concerns.
A jazzy good time
