Momentum builds against Measure H The ill-conceived Measure H that if passed would prevent the long-planned Prado Road extension from connecting to Broad Street is attracting a whole slew of opponents. In just the last few weeks, since the measure was certified for the November ballot, many prominent groups and individuals from diverse sectors of the community have come out in opposition. The following have pledged to fight Measure H (use the scroll bar to see the entire list): Youth Sports Advocates Elected Officials Former City Officials Public Safety Neighborhood Organizations & Advocates Former Elected Officials Business Community Other Individual Supporters Losing ground to our tourism competitors The City of San Luis Obispo just released its June 2010 TOT numbers and it looks like tourism is on the upswing with June 2010 ending with a 7.4 percent increase over a miserable June last year. This ends the 2009-2010 fiscal year down 5.1 percent – that’s better than the city’s predictions of being down 10 percent for the year. Even though San Luis Obispo has faired better than predicted this year and had a fairly good June, SLO is getting soundly beaten by its competitors. According to Smith Travel Research, the leading source in tourism statistics, the San Luis Obispo area was down 2.9 percent in revenue per available room (year-to-date June 2009 through June 2010) compared to the Santa Barbara area that was up 2.3 percent and the Monterey area that was up 11.6 percent. New SLO wine bar due to open in fall Meze Wine Café & Market (pronounced Meh-zay) is set to open this fall in the Railroad Square complex at 1880 Santa Barbara St. Meze Market is expected to provide a gourmet food experience as a new SLO social spot where patrons can enjoy a small, gourmet bite with high-end wine. The Railroad Square building, nearly a century old, was remodeled earlier this year after a devastating 2002 fire had closed the building. Other businesses located in Railroad Square are Focus Learning and The Yoga Centre. | ||
