Whatever your interests or background, the Chamber is sure to have something that suits your needs. You will meet other business people, get exposure and have a lot of fun! To request information regarding a specific committee, please e-mail the corresponding staff liason. Committees, which are formed every January, recommend policies to the Board of Directors. Most committees meet monthly; most councils and task forces meet on an as-needed basis. Committee & Task Force Descriptions Ambassadors Committee Volunteers committed to keeping the Chamber connected to member needs. Contact: Lindsey Haring Annual Dinner/Citizen of the Year Plans the Annual Dinner and installation of new officers. Also responsible for the selection and presentation of the Citizen of the Year. Contact: Lindsey Miller  Binding Arbitration Task Force Monitors effect of binding arbitration on the city and recommends Chamber action. Contact: Ermina Karim Diversity Council Promotes and increases member awareness of the business benefits of diversity. Contact: Grace Allen  Economic Development Committee Works to enhance the long-term economic vitality of the city and region; recommends public policy to the Board. Contact: Ermina Karim Healthcare Council Updates online employer information on health care and advises Chamber on health care policy issues.  Contact: Ermina Karim  Issues Evaluation Committee Analyzes and evaluates near-term issues; assists in developing Chamber policy.  Contact: Ermina Karim   Leadership San Luis Obispo Develops community leaders through annual year-long program. Contact: Sandi Sigurdson Legislative Council  A member forum to learn about and discuss “hot topics.” Contact: Ermina Karim Public Safety Service Committee Honors and supports public safety personnel with an annual luncheon. Contact: Lindsey Miller Seismic Task Force Helps members conform to the city’s seismic retrofitting regulations; provides input on those regulations. Contact: Ermina Karim  Sustainability & Resources Committee Helps members see the benefits of sustainable business practices; recommends public policy to the Board. Contact: Ermina Karim Technology Advocacy Committee Explores the opportunities of new technology for small business; builds a collaboration of local technology companies. Contact: Lindsey Miller Committee Policies Committee members are asked to consider issues on behalf of the Chamber’s 1,500+ members rather than represent any individual interest or organizations. All committee action is advisory only to the Chamber Board of Directors and does not become policy until and unless it is approved by the Board. A quorum is necessary for a committee to take action.  All discussion, deliberations and decisions must remain confidential. Members represent themselves, not their business or organization; therefore, no substitutes may attend a committee meeting in place of an absent member. Committee members are limited to a maximum of three (3) meeting absences during a calendar year. Guests are not allowed at committee meetings unless approved in advance by the committee chair. The committee membership roster is subject to annual review by the Chamber Chairperson of the Board. This review shall take place in December of each year, with new committee members, chair appointments, and carryover members presented to the Board for approval at its January meeting.
